Prospective Student,
I've been a fan of fishing magazines since I was a kid. I have a vivid memory of when I
was eight years old with the measles, stuck in bed but happy because I was reading about
the upcoming fishing season in a fishing magazine my parents bought me. A hobby as well as
a source of information, I continued my interest in angling literature into my adulthood.
The thought of writing for such publications had always been in the back of my mind but
one day I decided to take action. The idea to write and sell an article on fishing seemed
like the right thing to do, but how? I did not have any writing experience and the more I
thought about it the more overwhelming the task seemed. I felt lost before I had even
begun. That evening I was looking through one of my magazines when I noticed an ad for an
outdoor writing course. It claimed to be a correspondence course that could teach me the
kind of skills I was looking for. I was skeptical of a magazine ad but my wife and I both
thought this was some kind of omen and I should pursue it. The information package I
received in the mail was very encouraging and I knew at that point that I had made the
right decision. It turned out that Roger Brunt, the founder and instructor of the North
American School of Outdoor Writing, had articles in a number of back issues I had. It was
obvious from his many articles that Roger was an accomplished outdoorsman as well as an
award-winning writer. This was intimidating for me at first for I suddenly felt like I was
way out of my league. The intimidation turned out to be unwarranted and Roger turned out
to be a first class teacher.
The course he has designed takes you by the hand and walks you through the world of
outdoor media, from sending your first query letter to negotiating a book deal. Roger's
professional career allows him to teach with experience. This is one of the most valuable
assets of the course. He has inside information on what editors look for when purchasing
articles as well as tips that tell them whether you're a pro or an amateur. The layout of
the course is easy to follow and Roger is always available when help is needed. The
school's claim that you can earn the course's fee back in sold articles by the time you
graduate is no exaggeration. In fact, I've earned more than triple the price I paid for
the course and expect to continue earning money for fishing articles for as long as I
desire. I've been to some spectacular resorts as well as fished some fantastic new waters
all as a result of taking the course provided by the North American School of Outdoor
Writing. One of the highlights of my career so far was going to the Queen Charlotte
Islands on assignment with my wife Lorelee. It was a spectacular fishing adventure, and
seeing our names printed together as authors of the article made the whole experience that
much more rewarding.
For those who wish to pursue a career in the outdoor writing field or perhaps enjoy the
art of writing as a hobby I highly recommend this course. Don't just think about it. Take
that extra step and fulfill your dreams. Congratulations to Roger and his Outdoor School
for providing such a unique and much needed service. It has changed my life and I will
always be thankful.
Feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
